Weddings.... ah, the most wonderful, exciting, and
over-commercialized event of them all. I know, I shouldn't say that but
I really do feel that way. For years companies have capitalized on the
fact that every bride-to-be wants their day to be 'just perfect' and
have convinced her that anything handmade would take away from that
perfection.
Well, guess what? The tables have turned! More and more brides are
choosing to make their own invitations, programs and favors. These
smart ladies have found that not only is this handiwork just as good,
if not better than, the items that could be purchased - but their
guests just rave about them! I have heard many an
'ooh' and 'aah' over a beautiful program that the bride made herself.
And I've watched people fawn over the amazing favors that were put
together by hand (and even watched as people have snatched up a few
more favors than they were supposed to... but I digress.)
So take note: this special occasion merits it's own attention to detail and that can easily be accomplished with handmade items.
It's less expensive, for sure - unless you have particular ideas about what you want, and those ideas include pricey charms or rare papers.
It is also a great way to bond with your bridal party - I have had so much fun helping my friends, as we got together over wine and tulle, churning out box after gorgeous box of handpicked favors.
And it's so memorable for you and your guests. People tend to recall the details that make weddings that stand apart from one another. Sometimes those special items make it into a 'memory box' to remind the participants of the unique event. And that's what it's all about right? Great memories!
If you don't have your own upcoming nuptials to apply your creative talents to, maybe you will be attending a ceremony in the future where you can make a special card to accompany your gift. Bridal Showers are also a wonderful opportunity to present the happy couple with something unique - plus you can be there to see their reaction to the card. I've watched many a card of mine be passed around the room as people coo "I can't believe you made that - it's gorgeous!"
So keep this in mind the next time you find out someone's getting hitched - it's a great way to share something special with the people in your life, and maybe even get some accolades on your handiwork while you're at it!
