Cutting with Punches
One of the easiest ways to add dimension to your cards is with punches.
These little guys can create shapes, cut corners, add holes,
and do just about anything but the dishes...
Tools Needed
for this project:
- Paper Trimmer
- Scissors
- Adhesive
- Simple
Card Base & Envelope
- Patterned paper (cut to 5 1/4 by 4 inches)
- Red Layering cardstock (cut to 1 inch by 5 1/4)
- Smaller piece of white cardstock (around 3x3)
- Even smaller peice of white cardstock (around 3x1)
- Ribbon
- Image Stamp
- Sentiment Stamp
- Black ink
- Markers or other coloring product
- Label and corner punches
Step 1:
Adhere your red layering cardstock to the left-hand side of the
patterened paper.
Step 2: Now
stick the ribbon down on the cardstock - covering up the seam between
the red cardstock and the patterened paper.
Step 3:
Adhere the paper layers to the base of your card. It's
already pretty, isn't it?
Step 4: Set
your carstock layers aside and ink up the stamp image. This
lovely lady is from the Stamping Bella line.
Step 5: Gently
press the inked image onto your piece of 3x3 white cardstock.
What
you can't see from this picture is where I dropped the stamp onto the
cardstock, leaving a nice triple-image on the paper. I just
turned the paper over and tried again. Always keep in mind
that
there's two sides to paper!
Step 6:
Using a corner punch, round the corners of the white cardstock.
If you end up with any little rough edges, you can always use
a
piece of sandpaper to smooth them down.
Step 7:
Color in the image. I used markers here - I tend to like the
look of markers better when I want a vibrant image.
Step 8: Ink up your
sentiment with black ink and stamp it gently on the smaller piece of
white cardstock.
Step 9: Push
the stamped cardstock through a label punch, similar to this one which
is from Stampin' Up! I promise the punch is not as blurry in
person as it appears in this photograph.
Step 10:
Adhere your punched sentiment to the patterned paper. I have a thing
for my sentiments being in the lower right-hand corner. I
can't
explain why - it just is the way it is.

And
here's the final product! I just love the way the punches add
an
element of interest to cards - it's so polished looking in my opinion.
A quick and simple way to jazz up your cards.
